I started a ministry to Single Parents (moms specifically), back in July of 2011. Being a single mom myself and ministering to single moms has been one of the most difficult, yet most rewarding jobs ever! I love what I do and wouldn’t change it for any amount of money in the world…truly. I am 38 years old and have reached the point in my life where I know that money has nothing to do with happiness or calling. Calling is about God’s anointed purpose in your life and no amount of money could take away the joy of living out your calling on a daily basis!
The ministry that I lead is called Single Parent FUEL. We are based north of Detroit and serve primarily poverty and middle class single moms. Currently, we have around 45 Single Moms and over 60 children that we serve on a monthly basis. We offer many programs for single moms ranging from Life Groups (which are like small groups) to FUEL Nights which are large community nights filled with fun, power packed teaching, testimonies and the anointing of the Holy Spirit, which is really all we need! We also offer a program called FUEL Kids for the wonderful children of our single parents in addition to a program called FUEL Family which focuses on resources such as free counseling for single parents without insurance and other valuable community and FUEL resources.
One thing that I have learned over the last four years is that you just flat out can’t do it all. My heart to help single parents goes beyond the resources that we have. Often times I find myself in tears trying to save and help families that we serve. The Lord keeps reminding me that it is not my job to “save them”. It is His. Although I am reminded of this often, I do feel like I was created for this and just can’t do enough. I was created to love these women, these families. I was created to tell them of the good news of Christ. I was created to remind them of the promises of God instead of the pull of the Godless. I was literally placed here on earth to model to these women a life of power, not pity. A life of joy, not shame. A life of beauty, not burden!
To all the women that can relate, remember this – God doesn’t call us to perfection. He calls us to obedience. So whether you are ministering to one Single Mother or one thousand Single Moms, God sees your sacrifice, heart and obedience. He is proud of you! You are making a Kingdom difference! Do not be deceived by satan (I do not capitalize his name — he is not important enough) and doubt your impact. Do not get weary. Do not give up. Do not get faint. Do not focus on your effort, your team, your resources. Focus on your Supernatural Father!!! For He has you! He sees you. He has every intention of blessing His ministry to Single Moms and their beautiful children!
Father God, bless every person reading this. Remind them of your truth. Remind them of your call on their life. Deepen their passion. Deepen their conviction. Deepen their ministry. Deepen their obedience. Deepen their influence. Father, meet them where they are, whether they minister to one or one thousand. God, inspire them. Let them feel your breath and presence again. Father, unite us all as one. God you are worthy and we praise you for the opportunity to serve these women, these families. May we make you proud, Abba Daddy!
Gal 6:9 (NIV)
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
After a difficult divorce, Courtney Markoff was tired, overwhelmed, and afraid. She went from earning big money in business to applying for state aid. She struggled financially, emotionally, and physically. From this mess came the desire to help other single parents through the difficult transition she had just survived… and the birth of FUEL. Single Parent FUEL exists to equip, encourage and engage single parents in a supportive, non-judgmental community. FUEL exists to help address the daily challenges we have in common as single parents. Courtney is living proof that if we’re given the proper tools, encouragement, and mentoring, we can be healed, whole, and thriving!
