BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA. May 14, 2026. In 2007, Jennifer Maggio started a single moms’ support group in her living room with three single mothers that later morphed into a national movement. By 2011, that support group had grown substantially, earmarking the beginning of The Life of a Single Mom, a nonprofit committed to seeing no single mom walk alone.
Headquartered in Baton Rouge since 2011, the agency became one of the nation’s largest single mom-centric programs, offering a large variety of services. Such services have included launching more than 2,000 single mom support groups nationally, life skills education, counseling, and in-person and virtual events, among others. Cresting over one million single mothers served in 2023, the organization became well known for its national life skills platform, Single Mom University®, enrolling more than 20,000 students since inception in 2017.
On Thursday, May 14, 2026, however, the agency announced major changes to the brand. After 15 years of public service as The Life of a Single Mom, the agency officially renamed to Unstuck Ministries, where the bound become free. “Not only will Unstuck Ministries continue to be Louisiana’s largest provider of single mom programming, but we are now expanding services to all women,” Jennifer Maggio, the organization’s CEO, said. “Today marks a new era in ministry. We will continue to provide all the single mom programming that the public has grown to appreciate over the last fifteen years. And we will open a limited number of counseling, case management, and mental health services to all women who find themselves stuck.”
While expansion of services will evolve over the coming months, the organization is already providing life skills education, case management, and counseling to hundreds of at-risk women annually, beyond the 15,000 Louisiana single mothers it already serves.
“As the son of a single mother, I have always been passionate about the services offered here. But the Board of Directors is excited about the ability to now offer additional mental health and life skills services to women that have the potential to reduce single motherhood, in the first place,” said Ray Panquerne, Board President.
“We are excited to bring new curriculum, events, and support services to hurting women and believe this transition will serve to grow the work the Lord has already done within our organization. We look forward to continuing many more years of service to the Greater Baton Rouge area, the state of Louisiana, and beyond.” Maggio said.
