Whether you are homeschooling your children or dropping them off at school in the morning, summer is coming. So, how are you preparing? Are you looking forward to the warmer weather? Are you getting excited about having some fun in the sun as you watch them play on the playground or head out to hang out with friends (if you have pre-teens or teenagers)? Are you planning a summer vacation this year? In any case, I just want to send you a friendly reminder that school is almost out.
So, what would you or your child or children like to do this summer? I would think this is a great time to start pondering and planning the summer activities for your kiddos. With that being said, have you begun talking about your summer vacation? Are the kids getting excited about getting out of school soon? Well, as the school year is nearing its end, I would love to share a few ways to have fun this summer.
As I prepare to share these exciting ideas with you, I want to encourage you to grab a pen and pad and write down a few ideas that stand out to you. Think about how you can incorporate these activities and outings into your family. Invite your kiddos into the conversation as you dream together. Without further delay, let’s go ahead and dive into these fun summer activities!
Get Into the Water
On a hot summer day, there is nothing like putting on your swim wear and getting into the water! It’s a great way to cool off, while having fun at the same time. And if you haven’t noticed, the bathing suits, swimming trunks, suntan lotion, beach towels, goggles, and water toys are already on display in your local stores. So, take an intentional trip to the store with your kids and do a little shopping for your water attire, gear, and toys. I think that alone will get everyone excited for some summer fun!
Plan Your Vacay
There is nothing like exploring your next vacation. But don’t do it alone. Invite your kids to hop on the sofa or lay in the bed with you to begin imagining all the fun. And don’t forget to bring the phones with you so you can Google search the adventures and excursions, together. So if you’re thinking about visiting amusement parks, visit the website of the theme parks and explore the rides, thrills, shows, and food. Also, look for summer discounts, park hop passes, and park times. Get ready to plan a few days or a week off and enjoy some wholesome family fun for this year’s vacation.
Vacation Bible School
If your kids are younger, consider dropping them off at one of the local churches in your area for Vacation Bible School, otherwise known as VBS. When my kids were younger (at the time of writing this, my kids are young adults and my youngest is almost a senior in high school), I would search for several of them in the area and plan to have my kids at each one. It’s just a great way for your child or children to continue growing in their relationship with Christ through worship, the Word of God, arts and craft surrounding the theme, and being around like-minded children who want to learn more about Jesus.
Pajama Parties
Plan for pajama parties! Consider doing summer pajama parties maybe once a month on the weekend. Let your child or children invite a few friends over on Friday night, as you invite a friend or two over as well (with pajamas) and prepare to bake cookies, pour some punch, play games, and enjoy the fun and fellowship. It’s a win for the kiddos and the mamas! So, when can you schedule your first summer pajama party?
Picnic Time!
I don’t know about you, but I love packing up the picnic basket, stocking it with sandwiches and our favorite snacks for a picnic in the park. When my kids were younger, they LOVED this! We would also feed the ducks as they walked by. Simply laying on the blanket under the open sky, while chatting it up with my kiddos was so relaxing, and memorable. It’s just a great way to slow down, enjoy watching your kids play on the playground nearby, while enjoying a cool summer breeze. If you haven’t purchased a picnic basket, grab one before school is out and plan for a few picnics throughout the summer.
BONUS TIP!
Are you getting excited about the summer? Which one of these ideas piqued your interest the most?
A BONUS idea would be to research summer activities online. There are tons of ideas to help you and your child or children have a spectacular summer! Remember, school is almost out, so the time to start preparing is now. Have fun!
