As single moms, we face unique challenges and obstacles in our daily lives. It's a constant juggling act of work, parenting, and rest. The pressure to be perfect is overwhelming, and on some days, it feels like defeat. Choosing progress over perfection can be a powerful tool to overcome life’s trials and uncertainty. One of the most important things to remember is to give ourselves grace and allow God to transform us into the best version of ourselves. Here are seven ways to conquer obstacles...

#1 | MAKE TIME FOR REST

As women and moms, it's easy to put your needs last. We often ensure the everyone around us is taken care of. However, when it comes to ourselves, we tend to put ourselves on the back burner. Studies have shown that rest is crucial for avoiding burnout. As the old saying goes, we cannot pour from an empty cup. Take some time each day to do something that nourishes your body, mind, and soul. Whether it's going for a walk, journaling, reading a book, spending extra time with the Lord in prayer or His Word, or picking up a new hobby - make sure to make intentional time in your schedule for rest.

#2 | utilize OUR ROADMAP

The Bible is filled with wisdom and guidance for navigating life's challenges. It’s our guide to life - a lamp unto our feet and a light into our path. Schedule time each day to read the living Word, pray, meditate on His word and seek wisdom from God, even if it’s only 5 minutes in the beginning! You’ll be amazed at the results by incorporating this step into your daily schedule.

#3 | create a consistent routine

Structure is essential for moms; especially single moms. Create a daily routine that works for you and your family. Stick to the routine as much as possible, but be flexible when needed and give the hard stuff over to God. He has a plan for your life, "to prosper you and not harm you" (Jeremiah 29:11). It just may not look the way you expect. Trusting in Him gives you peace and sustains you during obstacles and life. Remember that God is with you every step of the way.

Did you know The Life of a Single Mom serves 100,000 single moms annually through our services? Will you give to help us see that no single mom walks alone?

#4 | EMBRACE YOUR STRENGTHS

You are beautifully and wonderfully made; you have unique strengths and talents. Embrace them and use them to push through obstacles. Ask God to reveal your strengths and how you can use them in daily living. When we are operating in our strengths, our path becomes clear and we’re able to have faith and wake up with the confidence we need to conquer the day!

#5 | EMBRACE YOUR STRENGTHS

Don’t have a village? When we become isolated, it feels like we’re the only one. Just know, you’re not alone! Surround yourself with people who can offer support and encouragement. Join a support group online, at church, or in your community. Reach out to other single moms! Take turns cooking meals, schedule play dates, clothing and toy swaps, and host gatherings. Fellowship is so important for women! Having a strong support system can help you overcome obstacles and give you the strength to persevere. Being a single mom doesn't mean you have to do everything alone. Don't be afraid to delegate tasks or ask for a break.

#6 | CREATE TO-DO LISTS

I’ve found that writing out the tasks that need to be completed allows me to feel and stay organized. Do I have to cross everything off my list in one day? Absolutely not! Give yourself grace to accomplish at least one thing on the list. Even if it’s picking up the dirty clothes off the floor, that task is done and it gives you an instant feeling of accomplishment!

#7 | TAKE ACTION

Sometimes, the best way to overcome obstacles is to take action. The longer we wait, procrastinate, and think about things, the bigger the mountain may appear. However, focusing on small steps tackles as much as working on several things. Take small steps each day to move towards your goals. Even if progress is slow, taking action can help you stay motivated and focused.
