Jennifer Maggio is the founder of The Life of a Single Mom. She is an author/speaker and international single parent advocate. As a former single mom, she has written several single parenting books and has been featured in several hundred media venues as a national single parenting expert. She has more than a decade of corporate leadership experience, including her position as the assistant Vice President of HSBC Bank overseeing more than $55mm in accounts. She attended Copiah Lincoln College maintaining 4.0 GPA. She is an 11-time Circle of Excellence Award Recipient and was named a 2017 Top 10 Most Influential Leader in America by Dr. John Maxwell. Jennifer serves as the Chief Executive Officer and manages the day-to-day operations of the organization.
Melissa Lawson is the Programs & Funds Development Manager for The Life of a Single Mom. With over 20 years of experience in the areas of strategic planning, business development, contract management, and team leadership, Melissa is a critical part of the team. She is goal-oriented with analytical abilities that ensure the day-to-day of the organization operate efficiently. Her long-term visionary thinking gives way to strategies that will continue to expand the reach of our organization. A member of the executive management team, Melissa brings her 20+ years of single motherhood experience to the table each day, giving her unique perspective, passion, and compassion for the challenges single mothers are facing. Her success in the corporate field has included such honors as Top Regional Producing Originator and Top Producer at previous employers. She is a graduate of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
Melody Weaver is the Project Assistant with The Life of a Single Mom, focusing on event management, volunteer recruitment, and management, and overall program assistance with our four major programs. Melody is pursuing her Bachelor’s at Liberty University. A single mother of four, her wealth of experience in single motherhood gives her a unique blend of compassion and expertise, critical to our team. Melody is a former executive assistant with a local bank, working directly with the Chief Executive Officer on clientele management and relationship-building.
Ashton Maggio is a graduate from Louisiana State University, receiving a B.A. in Business with a minor in Social Work. She is currently attending Louisiana State University in post-graduate studies to earn her Masters in Social Work. Ashton currently serves as Community Relations Specialist for the organization, specializing in case management with our prison initiatives. Her expertise in project management, volunteer recruitment, counseling, and relationship-building has proven to be a real asset to the team. Ashton has a heart to serve at-risk children and to give fatherless children a voice. She recently completed a two-month internship in Arusha, Tanzania, working with a local orphanage. Her professional experience includes volunteer-driven program management, data entry & retention, community outreach, bank account analysis, and customer relations.
Kedra Deggins is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Bachelor’s degree in Advertising and a minor in Visual Arts. She went on to pursue her second Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Louisiana State University and graduated in May 2017. Kedra remained in the top 7.5% of her classes at both ULL and LSU. She began her work with The Life of a Single Mom through a volunteer class project with LSU, where her primary goal was to develop ways to continue the growth of TLSM through appropriate branding and strategy. Building on the work done for the project, paired with her background in advertising, she has continued to bring creativity, diligence, compassion, and structure to our team through the AmeriCorps Vista program and is a vital asset to the TLSM family.
Natalie Vining is a Community Resource Developer through Americorps Vista with The Life of a Single Mom. Her duties include grant research and writing, as well as project management of Single Mom University. She brings more than a decade of single parenting experience to the TLSM staff. Natalie graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University where she majored in General Studies and secured her Bachelor of Arts. She was also a Division I college athlete. Her previous work experience includes focus in early learning & childhood development, admissions & operations, and schedule coordination. She began volunteerism with a focus on single mother’s issues in early 2016. She has also focused on personal training & physical fitness, since 2011 and possesses a passion to ensure single mothers are “whole”, healing from past trauma and becoming successful in all areas.
Jennifer Cook is the Accounting Manager for The Life of a Single Mom. She processes payroll, handles data retention, accounts payable & receivable, and front-end reception duties. A former single mother for many years, Jennifer understands the challenges well. She joined the TLSM team as a volunteer in 2012, prior to full-time employment. Prior work experience includes extensive knowledge of Quickbooks, payroll processing, multi-line phone system, data entry, customer service, and retail management. During her time on the team, she has been an integral part of the planning and implementation of the annual fundraiser and national single mother’s conference. She is a graduate of River Parishes College.
Candice Smith Carr is the Project Manager for our Single Mom University program. She has been a single mom to a teenage boy for over 14 years and brings lots of hands-on experience to our TLSM organization. Candice earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a concentration in nutrition from Southeastern Louisiana University. She received an Alternate Teaching Certification and has extensive classroom teaching experience in East Baton Rouge Parish School System for over 10 years. She is also a health coach working for various health and wellness corporations across the country. Candice has a passion for single moms and understands the challenges they face daily. She has an empathetic heart for enriching their lives by sharing the knowledge she has gained through her real-world experience and education.
Hazel Domangue is the current Project Coordinator assisting with our Single Moms Across America platform and Funds Development through Americorps Vista program. Hazel holds a Masters of Science in Journalism from Roosevelt University in Chicago. She has an extensive background in public service, including 16 years in the nonprofit sector and government relations. She has served through the Peace Corps in Zambia and Lesotho in Southern Africa, along with multiple years with Americorps. Her experience includes grant writing, project management, event planning, funds procurement, and client relations.

Dorothy Johnson Newton is an educated, professional woman and the single mother of two sons. Author of Silent Tears—A True Story of Betrayal, Abuse, Recovery and Victory, Dorothy shares her personal story of domestic violence inside a celebrity marriage with a former NFL standout. She is a regular guest of Joni Lamb on Daystar’s Table Talk and is a speaker at Christian conferences and women’s events nationwide. Her passion for helping others live a life filled with purpose and joy propels her to point people to freedom through the power of forgiveness. Amanda Carroll calls herself a “Professional Mother” and is a single parent of 3 children. Her family’s mission statement is to “Work hard, play hard. See needs, and meet them. Change the way the world sees God one life at a time.” She is a national radio personality with Christian FM Radio and a former on-air personality with K-LOVE, WJBC, and others. Amanda began her broadcasting career at just 11 years old, when her parents gave her a dual deck boom box. She is also a frequent speaker at women’s events, nationwide. Amanda is a CrossFit athlete who enjoys competing in the Sacramento, California area.
Vic Comstock is the lead pastor of Family Life Fellowship in Moberly, Missouri. Known for his down-to-earth, approachable style and love for people, Pastor Vic has taken his church’s vision of “People reaching people, through people, with the love of Jesus Christ” and made it a way of life. Launching in 1994 as a church with a mission of reaching people that no one else wanted, today Family Life Fellowship reaches thousands each week through innovative ministry ideas. Vic is happily married to Tricia, and they make their home in rural Missouri. Experience, strategic, and highly efficient, Ebony Halliburton is a project manager with the Federal Government. Making her home in the Washington, D.C., area, she is Lead Director of women’s ministries at DC Metro Church, located in Alexandria, Virginia. DC Metro Church is a multi-campus, multicultural, church launched in 2007 with 17 people, now hosting thousands on any given Sunday. She is a graduate of Georgia Southern University and holds a Master’s degree from Kennesaw State University. Bringing a wealth of knowledge in gender-based ministry, Ebony’s passion is bringing together people groups, regardless of race, age, or socio-economic status, with a sense of belonging.
Herb Reese is the founder of New Commandment Men’s Ministries, a national nonprofit organization focused on bringing men together to serve single moms and widows. New Commandment has helped hundreds of churches nationwide to establish a support services system for single mothers and widows who need help around the house. A graduate of both UCLA and Dallas Theological Seminary, Herb spent many years pastoring a church. However, his passion to see men connected to the local church and actively serving others led him to the launch of New Commandment Men’s Ministries in 2003. Tomekia Williams and her husband, Corey, are founders and pastors at the Impact Church in Savannah, Georgia, launched in January 2014. Raised by a single mother, Tomekia understands the challenges many single parent families face. Tomekia is a gifted Bible teacher who hosts a weekly radio broadcast, which is heard nationwide. She has a desire to equip people of all backgrounds and races with God’s word and to empower single mothers to head Godly households. She holds a degree from Regents University in Communications/Theology. She is faithful wife to Pastor Corey and mother to Courtney, Corey Jr. and Camaya. She is a national speaker who has a unique gift for bringing truth and encouragement to people groups around the U.S. For more information, visit HERE.
Nathan Darst is currently a Business Operations Manager for Bank of America. He oversees operational risk and staffing, covering 135 banking centers in Dallas, Fort Worth and surrounding metropolitan areas. He has supervised in a number of areas with Bank of America and brings years of banking and finance experience to the Advisory Council. Nathan was a Senior Vice President and Division General Manager for HSBC and supervised 100 branches in a 6-state area with over 600 employees. Prior to his SVP role in Texas and Ohio he held several District Sales Manager roles in Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Theology with the Wide World of Truth Bible College. In addition to serving with the National Advisory Council for The Life of a Single Mom, he is a board member of Junior Achievement Chisholm Trail and the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce. Nathan and his wife, Teresa, live in Burleson, Texas and have two adult children and 5 grandchildren.
