Are you a ministry leader? Pastor? Sunday School teacher? Author? Speaker? If you exist to encourage the body of Christ, then this is for you.

Your ministry – that Sunday school class you teach, book you are writing, single moms support group you are leading – is not your ministry at all. It is God’s ministry. He has given you this group of people to steward for a season. They aren’t your people, your girls, your flock. They are people that God has entrusted you to encourage, empower, and strengthen through his power, not yours.

Since when did ministry become a story of our lives, our abilities, our talents, and not about God’s power?

The realization that you aren’t called to fix anyone, but rather to point people to the One who can, is a freeing thought. When we hold too tightly to the ministry, we lose focus. We can become self-focused, self-righteous, and self-absorbed, rather than servant-minded. Whether you have been called to lead a mega-church or a small women’s Bible study, this truth remains:

God can use a rock. He chose to use you.

Steward this great honor well. Remain humble.
