2014 National Single Mom of the Year Named

Lorri Linkhart of Beavercreek, Ohio was recently named the 2014 National Single Mom of the Year by an official Judging Committee for The Life of a Single Mom Ministries’ national contest. Committee was comprised of ten business professionals and single mothers from the Baton Rouge, Louisiana area.

[Baton Rouge, LA September 5, 2014]  Lorri Linkhart, single mom of three children in Beavercreek, Ohio received the surprise of a lifetime when she answered her phone this week. Jennifer Barnes Maggio, Chief Executive Officer of The Life of a Single Mom Ministries, was on the other end congratulating her as the new 2014 National Single Mom of the Year. Linkhart’s daughter, 17-year-old Hannah, nominated her for the national program earlier in the year.

“I’m stunned.” Linkhart stated, “I have been praying for a sign from God that He sees me, and this is it!”

SMOTY WinnerThe National Single Mom of the Year contest was rolled out in June 2014 to give single mothers a way to be recognized for the hard work they put in everyday. Criteria included examples of courage, character, and commitment to Christ, as well as examples of the contribution the single mom has made to the improvement to both she and her children’s lives. Award package included an all-expenses paid trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, an awards ceremony to be held on October 3, 2014 at Healing Place Church, $500, a makeover, and various gifts and prizes.

As the organization’s founder and current CEO, Maggio says it is an honor and privilege to work with single mothers such as Linkhart to see them overcoming life’s obstacles against all odds and thriving in a relationship with the Lord. Linkhart’s entry detailed that the 43-year-old is six classes away from obtaining her Bachelor’s degree. It also highlighted some of the significant abuse and medical difficulties she has overcome, while tending to the needs of her three children and balancing school and work.

“Our God,” Maggio says, “is much bigger than any statistic written on a sheet of paper. The power of God changes lives, offers freedom, and erases pasts. Two out of three single moms aren’t attending church. As the body of Christ, this should move us to action.”
