The Life of a Single Mom’s National Advisory Council is a group of professionals and big-idea visionaries from around the United States that provide feedback to help us grow.  

The Life of a Single Mom is governed by its Board of Directors, a group of local business owners, educators, and professionals who bring a variety of skill sets and accountability to our organization. In addition, The Life of a Single Mom operates with a National Advisory Council, comprised of pastors, national speakers, and big-idea thinkers who can provide insight into the growth development of our organization.

Dorothy Johnson Newton is an educated, professional woman and the single mother of two sons. Author of Silent Tears—A True Story of Betrayal, Abuse, Recovery and Victory, Dorothy shares her personal story of domestic violence inside a celebrity marriage with a former NFL standout. She is a regular guest of Joni Lamb on Daystar’s Table Talk and is a speaker at Christian conferences and women’s events nationwide. Her passion for helping others live a life filled with purpose and joy propels her to point people to freedom through the power of forgiveness. Melanie Stone is the President and Co-Founder of Grow Churches. Grow Churches is an organization that offers a variety of resources to churches to help with growth and outreach. Grow Churches resources have been accessed more than 50,000 times online. A current pastor and two-time church planter, Melanie brings a wealth of experience in pastoring and church planting and has a desire to support those who are in full-time vocational ministry. Amanda Carroll calls herself a “Professional Mother” and is a single parent of 3 children. Her family’s mission statement is to “Work hard, play hard. See needs, and meet them. Change the way the world sees God one life at a time.” She is a national radio personality with Christian FM Radio and a former on-air personality with K-LOVE, WJBC, and others.  Amanda began her broadcasting career at just 11 years old, when her parents gave her a dual deck boom box. Vic Comstock is the lead pastor of Family Life Fellowship in Moberly, Missouri. Known for his down-to-earth, approachable style and love for people, Pastor Vic has taken his church’s vision of “People reaching people, through people, with the love of Jesus Christ” and made it a way of life. Launching in 1994 as  a church with a mission of reaching people that no one else wanted, today Family Life Fellowship reaches thousands each week through innovative ministry ideas. Vic is happily married to Tricia, and they make their home in rural Missouri. Experience, strategic, and highly efficient, Ebony Halliburton is a project manager with the Federal Government.  Making her home in the Washington, D.C., area, she is Lead Director of women’s ministries at DC Metro Church, located in Alexandria, Virginia. DC Metro Church is a multi-campus, multicultural, church launched in 2007 with 17 people, now hosting thousands on any given Sunday.  She is a graduate of Georgia Southern University and holds a Master’s degree from Kennesaw State University. Bringing a wealth of knowledge in gender-based ministry, Ebony’s passion is bringing together people groups, regardless of race, age, or socio-economic status, with a sense of belonging. Herb Reese is the founder of New Commandment Men’s Ministries, a national nonprofit organization focused on bringing men together to serve single moms and widows. New Commandment has helped hundreds of churches nationwide to establish a support services system for single mothers and widows who need help around the house.  A graduate of both UCLA and Dallas Theological Seminary, Herb spent many years pastoring a church. However, his passion to see men connected to the local church and actively serving others led him to the launch of New Commandment Men’s Ministries in 2003. Tomekia Williams and her husband, Corey, are founders and pastors at the Impact Church in Savannah, Georgia, launched in January 2014. Raised by a single mother, Tomekia understands the challenges many single parent families face. Tomekia is a gifted Bible teacher who hosts a weekly radio broadcast, which is heard nationwide. She has a desire to equip people of all backgrounds and races with God’s word and to empower single mothers to head Godly households. She holds a degree from Regents University in Communications/Theology. She is faithful wife to Pastor Corey and mother to Courtney, Corey Jr. and Camaya. She is a national speaker who has a unique gift for bringing truth and encouragement to people groups around the U.S. For more information, visit HERE.

Nathan Darst  is currently a Business Operations Manager for Bank of America. He oversees operational risk and staffing, covering 135 banking centers in Dallas, Fort Worth and surrounding metropolitan areas. He has supervised in a number of areas with Bank of America and brings years of banking and finance experience to the Advisory Council. Nathan was a Senior Vice President and Division General Manager for HSBC and supervised 100 branches in a 6-state area with over 600 employees. Prior to his SVP role in Texas and Ohio he held several District Sales Manager roles in Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Theology with the Wide World of Truth Bible College. In addition to serving with the National Advisory Council for The Life of a Single Mom, he is a board member of Junior Achievement Chisholm Trail and the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce. Nathan and his wife, Teresa, live in Burleson, Texas and have two adult children and 5 grandchildren.
