FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Baton Rouge, LA September 3, 2015 – Dayna Buri, single mom of one in Duvall, Washington received the surprise of a lifetime when she answered the phone. Jennifer Maggio, Chief Executive Officer of The Life of a Single Mom, was on the other end congratulating Buri on winning the 2015 National Single Mom of the Year. Buri’s close friend nominated her for the national award earlier in the year, but she never dreamed she would actually win.
“I’m honored, stunned, and blessed,” said Buri. “This could not have come on a better day.”
The National Single Mom of the Year contest launched in June 2014 to recognize single mothers for the hard work they invest each day. Criteria included examples of courage and character, as well as a commitment to Christ. Award package includes an all-expense paid trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, an awards ceremony to be held on October 16, 2015 at Healing Place Church, $500 cash, a makeover, photo shoot, massage, gift cards, and various prizes.
As the organization’s founder and CEO, Maggio says, “It is a privilege to work with single mothers, such as Buri, to see them overcome life’s obstacles.” Buri’s entry detailed that she was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor in January 2015 and endures countless procedures and treatment, all while raising her young daughter and repeatedly having an encouraging word for others in her life.
The Top 5 National Finalists for the 2015 National Single Mom of the Year Award include Linda Gensaw of Crown Point, Illinois; Laurie Payne of Asheboro, North Carolina; Lauran C. Bunting of Englewood, Ohio; and Veronica Correa of Chicago, Illinois – all of which received a prize package via mail and an official award certificate.
